Short Stories
Rose Red, Lilly White

“Rose drifted to the brink of consciousness and opened her eyes. Remains of sleep covered her mind like a sticky cobweb. She blinked hard trying to drive it out. What the -? She was staring at a wall only a few inches away from her nose. How on earth did she get here? And, more to the point, where was “here” exactly? She shifted her gaze from one side of the wall to the other, anxious of what she might see. The featureless glossy surface in front of her was probably white or beige, although the light was too dim to be sure. Something was out of place. At once her hands and feet went numb and her body shuddered from a sudden chill. She turned around slowly to look behind her. What she saw made her scream, although oddly no sound came out.
   The room was below her.
She was looking down at it from a bird’s eye view like someone who had lifted the roof of a doll’s house. Somehow she was floating near the ceiling.”

Rose is going on a road trip with her two best friends, Mary and Julie. The three of them have been friends since childhood and they sure know how to have fun together. It should be a holiday of a lifetime. There is only one snag – Mary and Julie brought their boyfriends along for the ride. To make things worse, one of the men is a creepy womaniser. Rose agrees to go, but regrets her decision the moment they set off. And it looks to be an adventure none of them will ever forget as things start going from bad to worse…
